ATTIBASSI - 'Special Oro' Roasted Ground Coffee (250g)
The Oro in Attibassi's Special Oro is not decorative. It reflects a blend built around premium-grade Arabica sourcing from multiple origins - a coffee intended to be the best version of the classic Italian espresso blend that the Bolognese roastery has been refining since 1918. Where Miscella 1918 is calibrated for the moka pot, Special Oro tilts toward the espresso machine: higher extraction pressure, shorter contact time, a context where balance is achieved in twenty to thirty seconds rather than the longer brew of the stovetop.
The blend draws from Arabica grown in Ethiopia and Brazil, with a Robusta component that contributes the density and crema stability that Italian espresso has come to be known for. The roast is medium-dark - enough to develop the chocolate and nutty character that Italian palates associate with good espresso, without pushing into the charred territory that erases origin quality entirely. Attibassi roasts carefully enough that you can still detect where the beans came from underneath the roast.
In the cup, Special Oro delivers what classical Italian espresso is supposed to deliver: dense, aromatic, a persistent crema, and a finish that is pleasantly bitter without being harsh. It does not need sugar to be drinkable, but it is also completely at home with a single lump and a small glass of water alongside.
This is espresso in the Italian tradition - not the modern specialty approach of light roasting and single origins, but the older, more blended style that grew out of decades of cafe culture and the demanding expectations of an Italian audience who knew exactly what they wanted.
Best for: Espresso machine, Americano, cortado, cappuccino, and any milk-based coffee drink where you want a rich, classical Italian base.
